Published on Mar 30th, 2024

Airtable, known for its flexible and user-friendly interface, offers a wide range of features one of which includes the ability to freeze columns to ensure that crucial data stays in view as you scroll through your base. If you're struggling with large sheets where important columns disappear off-screen, freezing columns can keep the information you need always visible. Here's how to do it:

  • Step 1: Open Your Base
Start by opening the Airtable base that contains the columns you wish to freeze.

  • Step 2: Select the Column
Click on the header of the column that you'd like to freeze to select it.

  • Step 3: Freeze the Column

Once selected, right-click on the column header. A dropdown menu will appear. Look for the option labeled 'Freeze field' and click on it. If you want to freeze multiple columns, select the range of columns by clicking and dragging over the column headers and then right-click to find the 'Freeze field' option.

  • Step 4: Adjust as Necessary
After freezing the columns, you can easily unfreeze them by right-clicking on the frozen column headers and selecting 'Unfreeze field' from the dropdown menu. Remember that you can freeze up to the first three columns in your base.

  • Step 5: Enjoy Your Optimized View
With your columns now frozen, you can scroll through your Airtable base without losing sight of your most vital data points.

Freezing columns is just one of the many functionalities that make Airtable an invaluable tool for teams and individuals managing extensive datasets. For optimal organization and data visibility, make the most of this simple yet powerful feature.
